Short answer: In cPanel open Backup, click Download a Full Account Backup, and save the file. Restore parts of it from the same page.
Take a full backup
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the Files section, click Backup.
- Under Full Backup, click Download a Full Account Backup.
- Choose Home Directory as the destination, enter your email address if you want a message when it is ready, and click Generate Backup.
- Wait for the email, then refresh the Backup page. Click the file name to download it. Delete the file from the server afterwards so it does not use space.
Take a partial backup
On the same Backup page, under Partial Backups, click the name of the Home Directory, a MySQL Database or Email Forwarders to download just that part.
Restore a part
- On the Backup page, find Restore a Home Directory Backup, Restore a MySQL Database Backup or the forwarders option.
- Click Choose File, pick your backup file and click Upload.
Restoring replaces current files with the backup, so make a fresh backup first.

Questions people ask
Does akthost keep backups for me?
Our servers run scheduled backups for disaster recovery, but they are not a promise that every file from every day is kept. Keep your own copy before any change.
Can I restore a full account myself?
You can restore files, databases, forwarders and filters yourself. For a full account restore open a ticket.
How often should I back up?
Before every update or change, and regularly for a site that changes often.
Where do I keep the backup?
Download it to your computer or a cloud drive. A backup that lives only on the same server can be lost with the server.
