Short answer: In cPanel open Email Deliverability, check that your domain shows Valid, then add a DMARC TXT record for _dmarc.
Check what you have
- Log in to cPanel.
- Under Email, click Email Deliverability.
- Find your domain. A green check and Valid is good.
- Click Manage to see the DKIM and SPF records, and the reverse DNS (PTR) status.
Where do records live?
Records live wherever your domain's nameservers point. If they point to us, edit records in cPanel Zone Editor (under Domains). If they point to your registrar or another DNS service, edit them there.
Add a basic DMARC record
- Open Zone Editor and click Manage beside your domain.
- Click Add Record, choose type TXT.
- Name:
_dmarc.yourdomain.com. - Record:
v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:you@yourdomain.com - Click Add Record.
p=none only watches and sends you reports. After a few weeks of clean reports you can move to p=quarantine.
Test
Send an email to a Gmail address, open the message, click the three dots and choose Show original. SPF, DKIM and DMARC should say PASS.
Questions people ask
What are SPF, DKIM and DMARC?
SPF lists which servers may send email for your domain. DKIM signs each email so it cannot be faked. DMARC tells receivers what to do when a message fails SPF and DKIM.
The page says Problems Exist.
Click Manage. cPanel shows the record it expects. If your DNS is hosted with us you can often click Repair. If DNS is elsewhere, add the record there.
How long until a change works?
Usually minutes, sometimes a few hours. See the DNS guide.
