Short answer: In cPanel open Software, then MultiPHP Manager, tick your domain, pick a PHP version and click Apply.
Steps
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the Software section, click MultiPHP Manager.
- Tick the box next to your domain.
- In the PHP Version box on the right, pick the version.
- Click Apply.
The change takes effect straight away. Open your website and click around to test.
Which version?
Before you change, update WordPress, plugins and your theme. Then move up one step at a time, for example from 8.1 to 8.2, testing after each step. Do not leave a site on a very old version.
See which version a site uses now
The MultiPHP Manager list shows the current version beside each domain. You can also add a small file named phpinfo.php with <?php phpinfo(); and open it in a browser. Delete it afterwards because it shows server details.
Roll back
Select the old version again and click Apply.
Questions people ask
Which PHP version should I choose?
Use a current PHP 8 version that your WordPress, plugins and theme support. Old versions no longer get security fixes.
My site shows an error after I changed the version.
Go back to the same page and select the previous version. Then update your plugins and theme and try again.
Which versions are available?
The list in MultiPHP Manager is the real list for your server. Our cPanel servers offer a range of PHP versions, from old ones kept for legacy sites to current PHP 8 releases.
