How to install a new theme for Wordpress manually with download?

Short answer: In WordPress go to Appearance, Themes, Add New Theme, Upload Theme, choose the zip, Install Now, then Activate.

Method 1: upload in WordPress

  1. Log in to yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
  2. Go to Appearance, then Themes, then Add New Theme.
  3. Click Upload Theme and Choose File. Pick the theme zip (the main one, not a documentation zip).
  4. Click Install Now, then Activate.

Method 2: with File Manager

  1. Unzip the download on your computer so you have the theme folder.
  2. In cPanel File Manager open public_html/wp-content/themes.
  3. Upload the theme zip, right-click it and Extract.
  4. In WordPress go to Appearance, then Themes and Activate it.

Errors

If the upload says the file is too large, see Fix memory and upload size errors.

Questions people ask

The upload fails with a size error.

Raise upload_max_filesize and post_max_size. See the PHP limits guide.

Is it safe to install any theme?

Only install themes from the WordPress directory or sellers you trust. Pirated themes often hide malware.
